FARMINGTON — A West Jordan man is accused of trying to solicit sex from someone he thought was a 13-year-old girl but turned out to be an undercover agent.
Isaias Magana, 39, was formally charged Monday with eight counts of sexual exploitation of a minor, a second-degree felony; one count of enticing a minor by internet or text, a second-degree felony; and possession of a controlled substance, a class A misdemeanor.
Police say Magana talked on social media with someone he thought was a 13-year-old girl from June 1 through June 28, according to a probable cause statement. The girl turned out to be an undercover agent with the Davis County Attorney’s Office.
Magana allegedly sent explicit messages to the girl and made plans to drive to Farmington to meet her and have sex, the statement says.
At about 10:30 p.m. June 28, Magana arrived at what he thought was the girl’s home with his 4-year-old daughter in the backseat, according to the statement.
When Magana was arrested and searched by police, they found he had a “baggie of white powder” in his pocket that Magana allegedly told them was cocaine. After he was read his Miranda rights, Magana allegedly admitted that he was in Farmington to meet an underage girl for sex.
Police searched Magana’s phone and found “at least eight videos” of child pornography.
Magana is being held at the Davis County Jail in lieu of a $20,680 bail, according to online court records.
His initial appearance in court is scheduled for July 6 in Farmington’s 2nd District Court. Magana has been assigned a judge, but it was not immediately clear if he has been appointed an attorney.
